(Honolulu)-- The Hawai'i Nurses' Association (HNA), the union representing nursing professionals at Kuakini Medical Center, announced the ratification of a three-year contract. Kuakini Registered Nurses (RN) voted overwhelmingly to ratify the new contract. Patt A. Gibbs, HNA Executive Director, said, “In addition to 4% annual wage increases, the contract contains a significant negotiated improvement to the 403-B match for employee contributions." The tentative agreement was ratified on December 1, 2008 and is set to expire November 30, 2011.
Contract improvements include wage increases totaling 12% over the next three years, increases in night shift differential and on-call pay and increases to the non-matching portion of the 403-B plan. As of April 1, 2009, the 403-B will match 50% of 4% of employee's contribution. The agreement also allows for additional Union Stewards and adequate time for level 3 and 4 nurses for performance improvement projects. Improvements in the areas of holiday hours and health coverage options are also included in the ratified contract.
HNA represents more than 180 Registered Nurses at the Kuakini Medical Center. It was founded in 1917 and is the largest union representing Hawaii's private sector RN's. HNA is affiliated with the United American Nurses, an AFL-CIO affiliate.
