A message from Susan Ganz, Executive Director, Service Delivery/Business Planning and Community Benefit and Daryl Kurozawa, MD, AMD, Neighbor Islands
After a several thousand mile journey across the country to our program offices in Oakland, and then a journey aboard a container ship, our mobile health vehicle (MHV) is finally here! It arrived in the islands last Friday, June 26. We now lead the charge in mobile health and will be able to improve health care access for thousands of our members on the Big Island.
Our MHV is the nation’s most wired because it’s fully equipped with KP HealthConnect, a digital mammography unit, and video telemedicine capability. While we’ll have additional services in the future, for the time being our MHV health care team will be able to provide our Big Island members basic screenings, including cholesterol, glucose, waive testing, urinalysis, and gonorrhea and Chlamydia testing. Flu shots and pneumovac vaccines will also be available.
Historically, the Big Island’s mammography screening rates have been below the state and national average. We’re looking at turning this number around by also offering mammograms, breast and pelvic exams, and pap smears.
Although the vehicle’s permanent home will be on the Big Island, the MHV will be briefly on Oahu until July 8.
Please join us and attend these fun events on Oahu and the Big Island.
