Dear HNA President Luanne Long,

This is my story about Gail Crabbe and her important role in my son's accident.

We were hiking up Halawa Valley, on Molokai. Our guide had just said to keep moving in case a Mango tree branch should fall. Just then a huge, Mango tree branch fell right down on Victor, my son. He was seriously injured and we had to hike him out of the valley, and drive him to the Molokai General Emergency Room. We arrived there Saturday, June 7, about 12 noon.  Gail Crabbe was on duty and took charge immediately of Victor.  She and the doctor began E. R. procedures caring for Victor and reassured me that he was in the best hands, and would be fine!  I appreciated her calmness, and professionalism in the care of my son.  She had to assist his breathing, and maintain his vital signs.  As another patient came in to the E. R., Gail chose to stay with my son, Victor while another nurse went to assist the new patient.

Gail kept me informed the whole time of Victor's progress and kept me calm, saying that I was a great daddy, and doing all I could for Victor.  Her voice and persistence with Victor's care over the four hours there in the E. R. made me believe that the worst was behind us and Victor would live!  Another nurse had called the Air Ambulance plane and we received notice that we would be flying to Oahu.  Gail kept me calm while waiting for the ambulance to come and take Victor and I to the Molokai Airport.

I remember being at the Honolulu Kapiolani Hospital and telling the staff about the accidentand how Gail kept me calm while on Molokai in the E. R.

Thank you to all the Nurses, and Doctors across our great country! GREAT JOB!

Sincerely,
Nathan Petherbridge
