Aloha HNA Members,
We are pleased to announce the favorable decision reached by the AFL-CIO Executive Council supporting the affiliation of the HNA with the OPEIU. Following our decision as a union to unite with the OPEIU earlier this year objections were filed with the AFL-CIO by the NNU. An Arbitration Hearing, Article XX, was held in October 2010. Following the Article XX Hearing in Washington, DC, the HNA affiliation with the OPEIU was deemed legitimate.
The NNU then filed an appeal of the decision and now the HNA has won the appeal. Members can review the complete Final Decision that was made by the Executive Council Article XX Appeals Committee on our website.
This is a very significant step for our great union as we will no longer be subjected to NNU/CNA raids or other interference of any kind from those who have previously sought to take us over.
We are very pleased with our decision to affiliate with the OPEIU and are especially grateful for their support of our organization.
Once again the full focus of our union can be on the work of representing our members through successful contract negotiations, dispute resolutions, and organizing in Hawai’i to build even greater strength for the HNA. This organization exists to serve our members. With your support we will continue to make a difference in your workplace. Our members are the pulse of HNA.
In unity,
Joan Craft, RN - President
Ro bin Tanner, RN - Vice President
Elayne Schwartz, RN - Treasurer
Marina Robinson, RN - Secretary
