Beginning this Saturday, 11/3/07, the UAN will be conducting a national opinion poll of our members conducted by a research firm, On Target Research. The UAN’s last national poll was in 2003. Given the state of the labor movement, the complexity of issues facing the profession and the recent internal debate on issues related to the value and role of a national union, we believe that hearing directly from the membership is valuable.
We hope to have preliminary results available for the meeting on December 6th, 2007. As you know, polls often are useful as part of the long range strategic organizational planning system. In order to ensure the usefulness of the information, the poll will be conducted in a manner to achieve statistically valid results. In order to minimize disruption, we have required that all polling be done between the hours of 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm (in each time zone), except on the weekends, when the polling will start a little earlier. Additionally the poll should take no longer than 20 minutes.
